Links and Partners
St James seeks to link itself with relevant local and national organizations as a way to further its mission and outreach. Please see below for some information on our activities.
Eco Congregation, Scotland
St James Church is a registered member of Eco Congregation Scotland, which is a faith-based movement supporting congregations to care for the environment, in worship, in practical action and in advocacy. Its essential work is caring for creation and promoting justice. Our energy supplier is credited as Net Zero and we have attended workshops and lectures on energy efficiency. Our small church garden is tended ecologically and we aim to host as many animals and insects as we can. We have two bird boxes to encourage nests, large shrubs and climbing plans for shelter and are growing flowers for pollen and fruits. www.ecocongregationscotland.org
The Prayer Book Society
As our church’s main service is traditional Evensong, we are linked with The Prayer Book Society as a corporate member, aiming through that network to extend our worship to visitors to the area and to those locally who value the beautiful language of this ancient text. The Prayer Book Society brings together those who value the Book of Common Prayer in order to promote, celebrate and study one of the most transformational Christian books. Its 2030 Vision is ‘for people of all ages finding life in Christ through a growing Prayer Book service in every benefice’. The biannual magazine (available at the back of our church) offers perspectives on worship, varied reading lists and details of special services at other churches. The Book of Common Prayer (also known as the BCP or the Prayer Book) has been used and valued by millions of Christians around the world, giving faith, continuity of worship and many well-loved prayers and forms of service over the generations. No wonder is was a traditional baptism and confirmation gift and, like the Bible, there was a copy in many houses. It has been modified several times since its first issue in 1549, principally in 1662 and here in Scotland we have our own special edition. www.pbs.org.uk

St Kessog's Episcopal Church, Autcherarder

St James Church has very close links with St Kessog’s church and congregation, sharing our Rector the Rev’d Duncan Strathie and taking opportunities to worship, study and enjoy fellowship together. Eucharist services are held on Sundays at 11am and on Wednesdays at 10am. This beautiful church was built in 1897 in the Gothic style to serve the needs of the growing town of Auchterarder and is set in quiet grounds adjacent to the churchyard. The building interior is light and attractive, with a beautiful altar and reredos of Caen stone, both richly decorated with Florentine mosaic, and elegant kneelers and pew cushions. The east and west windows are by Kempe of London. www.stkessogs.org
Muthill Parish Church
Almost opposite St James Church is an imposing building with a tower, the home of Muthill Parish Church. We are glad to have built links with this active and friendly congregation in recent years, and share worship and social events throughout the year. We meet at the War Memorial to remember Armistice Day and share some Christmas services and Easter services. In addition, all are welcome at our church’s regular Film Nights, summer concert and coffee mornings and the Parish Church’s book club, Wednesday lunches and home groups. We really value the friendship across the village and the additional companionship and support of fellow Christians. https://muthillparishchurch.co.uk/

St James is part of the the Diocese of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane is one of the seven dioceses of the Scottish Episcopal Church. It covers Fife, Perth and Kinross, Coupar Angus, Clackmannanshire and eastern and central Stirling, with St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth, at its centre. Its Bishop is Ian Paton. At the heart of the diocese is its movement for mission and growth, which moves us ever closer to our diocesan vision: "Our diocese comprises a thriving group of hopeful, caring and committed congregations whose shared life, worship and effective engagement with people and issues in their communities attracts growing numbers of people from diverse backgrounds to share the values and work of our church."

Wardside Home for the Elderly
We are pleased to have friendly links with Wardside Home, where our Rector leads a monthly service of Holy Communion for residents and friends. Many older members of our regular congregation settle at Wardside in their later years and other residents are pleased to have an opportunity for worship and Christian fellowship.
Muthill Primary School
Muthill Primary School Our village is fortunate to have a happy and thriving Primary School and our church continues the tradition, along with Muthill Parish Church, of welcoming the children into our buildings for their Christmas and Easter services. A recent Easter service gave the children the opportunity to share their songs (some with actions), poetry and prose and to display their Easter drawings, while Hannah from St James Church explained about Easter traditions around the world and links with the Easter story.
